Fox Hunt

The club hold’s a Fox Hunt event from time to time as a fun social get together and to sharpen our radio tracking skills.

The premise is simple: An organizer hides a tiny transmitter called a “Fox” somewhere nearby.  Everyone else tries to be the first to locate the signal and find the Fox. Typically the last finder of the Fox is the next person to hide it.

Equipment required is fairly simple. Usually a 2M handheld radio is all that is needed. Special techniques will help you hone in on the Fox’s signal, until you’ve found it. You can build a special purpose antenna to aid in finding a Fox, but they aren’t mandatory.
